Scholarship Applications are coming in!

Hi everybody!

Well, it’s that time of year and applications are starting to come in.  I’ve got one from my school and two from different schools around town.

I need your help.  I need some volunteers who would be willing to read over all of the essays and help to decide who gets a scholarship.

I keep myself out of the selection process though I will act as a tie breaker if necessary.

If you’re interested in reading 10 or 20 essays, please send me an email and I’ll be in contact with you.

Application deadline is March 1st, so shortly thereafter I will be sending out packets for you all to select from.

Thanks very much.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please let me know.

You Know I Like Green…

So it’s no secret to anybody who knows me.
I like green.
I have 6 or 7 green shirts I wear to school regularly, and a green pen I made myself, along with a couple of green pencils.

001

A while back I had my resin-pouring-friend Bob mix up a jade green for me – the pen at the top in the picture above.  I love it.  Reminds me of the vintage Sheaffer and Parker materials.

But the way those vintage materials change and get darker as they age is really cool, too, so I asked him to make up a darker green for me…

And I LOVE it.  It turned out SO well.  I can’t wait to get this pen finished.

002

Here it is side by side with the lighter “jade”.

003

I love all these custom resins.  If you have any ideas for a pen you’d like to have made, but you can’t seem to find just the right color, let me and Bob know, and we can try to mix it up for you.

Happy Holidays!
Shawn Newton

Scholarship Deadline

Hi Everybody,

I just want to say thanks for all of the participation in the so far – and remember there’s only three more days for the current one.  Two pens, one winner!

I also want to announce that I’m extending the deadline to turn in scholarship applications until March 1st of 2014 so more of you have time to get these in.  If you know a senior who could really use the extra few bucks to help them get started with college, let them know about this.  It’s open to anyone in the US.  Recipients’ schools will be contacted and money will be handed out once students are enrolled and attending.  Money can be spent on technology, food, books, gas, shoes, art supplies, car repairs, or whatever else they need to keep going.  🙂

Thanks!
