Why is this a post that you have to see if you subscribed to my page? I have no idea.
I definitely have other things I should be doing *cough* taking photos of donated pens for the scholarship fundraising on ebay *cough* and *ahem* working on pens for the upcoming Dallas Pen Show *ahem-hem*.
Here we go-
These are the most of the tools I use, and the sewing machine is a Brother Pacesetter PS200T. I’m sure any machine will work. X) Thanks to Hot Springs Sewing and Vacuum on Malvern Ave. here in Hot Springs for setting me up with the machine and most of my gear. That guy is awesome!
My mom gave me the big clear quilt ruler thing, and some other stuff I’m sure, but I don’t remember. I love you mom! 🙂

Make them the size you want them. Bigger than the pen you want to put in there, so that when they’re sewn together and cut down a little and flipped inside out 15 times, your pen will fit snug but not too tight and not too loose.
Put the good faces against each other so that when you’re all done the good part is on the outside and the sleeve looks nice. I only used 2 layers of fabric here, but in the future I’m going to use an extra layer of fabric or inner facing, to give them a bit more thickness.

Once they’re all inside out, press the sewn edge with your fingers from the outside, or with the bone folder from the inside. Or both. I dunno. It doesn’t matter. 🙂
Pressing with fingers:

Poking with bone folder:

This is when you’ll see how crooked some of them are. I didn’t sew my lines super straight on some, so I have a couple where the bottom and top are different widths (rt):

Iron them flat:

Fold in half and iron flat again:

Then sew the ends:

I sew them all at once and cut them apart at the end. It saves about 10 seconds. X)

Then cut the corners a tiny bit before turning right side out. My mom showed me this.

Use the bone folder to poke the corners out:

And iron again:

Figure out how big you want the opening to be and then sew that line to close it off:

This one is sloppy…

But most of them look great. 🙂

this is great! thanks for sharing. I’ll be making some sleeves soon.
They look really good (love the colours you chose)! Thank you so much for the detailed info, Shawn; I’ll be getting my mother-in-law to make some, LOL.
This is a great tutorial. Thank you! I’m FINALLY using all of my scraps I’ve been saving that are too small for most projects. Our pen club will be getting sleeves for the holiday meet up!!!
I have all the stuff! I could do that! Thanks for the detailed tutorial!
