Hi Everybody! It’s time to announce a winner from last month’s drawing – and we had a busy month with 60 entries (that includes multiple entries, too).
We raised $645 with the sale of postcards and notebooks in September. Thank you all so much!
Using random.org to pick a winner from all 60 entries last month, #44 wins! Congrats to Hazel L., who wins a $225 credit with free grind and shipping as thanks for participating and supporting the scholarships! I’ll send you an email soon.
If you haven’t seen yet we are now selling little pocket notebooks to raise money for the scholarships alongside the postcards.
You can look at all of those here-
Pocket Notebooks!
Buy Scholarship Postcards
All the money raised from sales and donations will go to high school kids to help pay for college – whether it’s books, tuition, groceries or gasoline.
If you want to know how it works the rules are here –
Rules
Please keep on sending in those donations and buying postcards and notebooks. Every dollar counts!
As always, if you have any questions please ask – [email protected]
Thanks!
Shawn
Hi Everybody,
The pocket notebooks are here! I have 5 different styles available. These are the top 5 designs you voted on last month.
The 1st place winner, Robots by Jamison O., is the smallest of the group at almost 3 1/2 x 5 1/5 inches and is filled with Tomoe River paper. These were made for me by Curnow Bookbinding and Leatherwork. Thanks Steve!
The other 4 are filled with HP laser paper and are 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 inches. These were made for me by a local printer, Bill Hall Printers. Thanks!
And thanks so much to the artists who submitted the work that was voted on. Vines by Miriam C., Dragon by Kelly D., Owl by Ged A., and Bottles and Nibs by Attila S.
To purchase any of these books and help support the Newton Pens Scholarships and high school kids going into college, click here.
Thanks!

Hi everybody! It’s time to say thanks to everybody who contributed to the scholarship fund in August and give a pen away! August was a slow month – we raised $143 with 15 people contributing.
Using the magical random.org to pick a number, #1 was picked. Congrats to Bemjamin L! I’ll send you an email soon.
We have lots of great postcards to pick from, and every penny goes towards the scholarships. Not only do you get great postcards, but you get the chance to win a custom pen, and the knowledge that every penny is going towards helping some deserving high school students with their college expenses. If you’d like to be a volunteer to help read the essays this go round, please let me know and I’d be happy to add you to the list.
You can look at the current offering of postcards here.
We’ll be putting together notebooks pretty soon, too. Watch out for our announcement about that.
As always, if you have any questions about anything at all, please holler. [email protected]
Thanks!

Hi Everybody! End of the month and time to announce the winner of the drawing.
For the month of July we all raised $522.83 with 36 entries. Using Random.org number picker, Dehua L., #14! Congrats! I’ll send you an email to discuss what to do next.
So if you want to buy some cool postcards and help contribute to the scholarships, it’s time! 🙂 Just pop on over to the postcards page – Postcard Sale and Donations – and buy some postcards! If you want to enter for free, or learn about the scholarships, then please read over this page – https://newtonpens.com/newton-pens-scholarships/.
And something a little new and very exciting; somebody started a GoFundMe for the scholarship! Shortly after the GoFundMe was put up a local magazine, The Springs, contacted me for an interview to talk about the scholarships! Such an exciting month!
So let me see if I covered everything: money raised, winner, postcards, GoFundMe, new things, oh yeah!
Don’t forget about the pocket notebook cover contest! The deadline is August 15th for art submissions. Size is 3.5×5.5″ and needs to be black and white. It can be anything you want, but needs to have Newton Pens Scholarships written on it somewhere, somehow. It can be small, large, hidden, bold, whatever. After the art is all submitted I’ll put up a survey monkey thing so we can vote on our favorite art. I’m going to have 2 styles using Tomoe River and 28# white. Hopefully the response will be positive.
I’ve only gotten a few submissions so far. Art with the most votes wins a pen. Second place will win something else. Maybe a nice bottle of ink or a Lamy Safari or something like that.
Please holler if you have any questions about anything at all.
Thanks!

Hi Everybody –
We here at Newton Pens Scholarships are wanting to add a little inventory to the scholarship fundraising line. We want to add small custom cover notebooks – about 5 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ – to the lineup of postcards we already sell.
So my idea is this – art contest. There are lots of awesome artists out there making lots of awesome art. I’d love for you all to come up with a cool cover design, that will be voted on later, that we’ll use on the cover of these little notebooks. We don’t have any money to pay for the art – but I’d like to make a pen for the winner. No wait. Custom pen just for you. Basically a credit of $225 with free grind and shipping, just like the scholarship pen winners get.
OH OH OH! Change in size. Image can be the whole cover. 3.5 x 5.5
The image needs to be black and white (cheaper to print one color) and about 2″ wide by 4.5″ tall if we use the size above. So about 75% of the cover size.
Oh! Also – limit to 2 entries per artist.
EDIT: OH yeah! Theme is open – something with wide ranging appeal – and it needs to say Newton Pens Scholarships in it somehow – clean – hidden – bold – whatever you like. If you already have some cool image you’d like to submit that would be cool. I can take any format you have – .jpg, .png, whatever. If you have any questions just shoot me a note. [email protected]
No logos. Not even mine. I want some cool artwork rather than a remake of my logo. This isn’t about me or the pen company, but about the scholarships. The artwork can be anything! Be creative.
TIMELINE: So I think middle of next month, August 15th let’s say, for art submission deadline. A few days after I organize everything I’ll put up some sort of voting thing so you can all vote for your favorite cover image. 🙂
All submissions to [email protected]
Let me know if I forgot anything else! 🙂 Thanks!
We have printers to make the little notebooks. 🙂
We need some help with this notebook thing though – I’m talking to a few places about cost and quantity, but if any of you know of some people who could help us out with making little notebooks we’d really appreciate it. Depending on who we use for the notebooks the image requirements may change.
You can always shoot me an email to [email protected].
Thanks!
So for a long time I’ve been asked about making bamboo style pens and I’ve always said no for different reasons. So finally just a few days ago I decided, sort of on a whim, to make a pen with some bumps along the cap and barrel, that sort of looks like bamboo.
This was so much fun to make that I’ve decided to add it as an option.
These pens will start at $250, and like all my other pens price depends on material and nib options.
If you have any questions just holler. [email protected]
Hi Everybody,
Time to announce income for June 2016 and the winner of the free pen picked from all of June’s entries. You all donated $982.00, which is a great start for this year’s scholarship awards!
The winner from all 25 entries for a $225 credit/free nib grind/free shipping, is #5, Marla C! Congrats Marla! I’ll be sending you an email so you can begin to figure out what you want. 🙂
We have lots of great postcards to pick from, and every penny goes towards the scholarships. I’m actually wanting to do things a little differently starting this year and could use a little help or advice on where to start. I’d like to invest some of the money you raise this year so that after a few years we’ll be able to reach out to more students and help with their expenses.
If you have any questions, please let me know – I’m easy to reach – [email protected]
Thanks!
