Here you can see an example of a cap ring (this one from Montblanc). Pelikan makes theirs the same way with the little tabs holding each ring together. This is so they can injection mold the cap around the rings.
This is why I make new cap rings on Pelikan pens instead of cutting up the original cap and reusing the rings.
And Aurora pens have a weak point – so if you drop them, expect the very thin threaded area where the red arrow is pointing to break.
